Master Musings: Guild Positions

The musings of a guild leader are always full of drama. I wouldn't deny that my own musings aren't free of the dreaded drama bug, but we're all human. It's just that guild leaders are more exposed to those sort of things. What makes you different though, is your ability to come back from cloud nine to the people you love.

Guild positions are what people most commonly call rankings. It's the position you hold in a guild, something that changes with the type of tendency your guild is. For Neutral, it's Guild Master, Boss, Captain, Maestro, Veteran and Apprentice. In Inflation, there's only two people who hold administrative power, or Guild Master and Boss ranks: JohnGee and me. After that, we have a group of Captains, people who show very good citizenship in our guild, and a group of Maestros and a group of Veterans and the rest of the guild.

To be honest, guild positions do not mean much to me for one reason: everyone deserves to have the same time and dedication given to them as I would another. Of course, I value John above anyone, guild, LaTale, college, real life friends, but beyond that I still treat everyone the same unless they really do not deserve it. Like causing drama with me. Or lying to me. Or causing drama with others. Ect.

But when my guild members ask me how to get rankings, I don't know what to tell them. I mean, I'm more than happy to give you the rank, but if you earn it. I don't measure by what you contribute to the guild material wise, I measure by the content of your character. Someone could donate to guild crop, have 1-2% of the guild's guild point shares, but not talk to anyone, not greet, not interact with us whatsoever. Material wise, they're doing a good job, but that doesn't tell me about their character and their actual investment to be a good citizen in our guild.

Citizenship. I tell this to those who ask me for rank. Then they ask what it is. It's done so simply, but it's so hard to do it ever so constantly. Saying hello, welcoming back, having conversations with guild members, getting to know them, interact with guild members inside the game or out. Overall, welcome the guild into your heart and you'll be ranked. I cannot stress that enough, but for some reason it's a hard concept for people to understand.

I know that forcing my views of what a guild is upon my guild members isn't the best, but there's people beyond those pixels and if we don't established that, we're just a figment of each others' imaginations. I think I know that I exist, along with the person who I sit next to in game or talk to in guild chat or compete with in bid wars. If we were all just a bunch of silent players that didn't interact with each other, then it would be all of our loss because everyone is wonderful in their own way.

So, positions don't mean much to me. Guild Rankings, on the other hand, do.

But I'll save that for another day.
