Somethings are rant worthy, some aren't. Put a Ca in front and you get CaRant: a rant that is done by Calamansi. There are times when my opinions get too strong and manifest into complete essays, but words sometimes fail me and I'm left with a made up word to describe my feelings. Let's expand upon what really goes on when I calag or carage or even better, CaRant.
I feel that contests on the forums can be better. The contests (found here on the Official LaTale Forums) usually consist of the Comedy Comic Contest, the Number 1 Club and the Funniest Caption Contest along with a Guide Contest or Art Contest every now and then. Sometimes they have some really fun and engaging contests or contests that actually sound interesting, but in all honesty, I've only entered a few contests.
Why are the contests shallow? Every month it's the same contests with some choice new ones, but overall, it's uninspiring to keep on entering the same contests. I feel that most of the contests are just to pump more profit out of the community (Number 1 Club) or a lame idea being reproduced in lieu of a shortage of ideas (Guide Contest).
When they actually do a contest that really pumps the imaginations and creativity of the community, we are never given a criteria in which the entries are graded. There are usually entries that are clear winners, but what makes my entry different from the next in the eyes of the judge? I will compare this to Iron Chef, yes Iron Chef. Participants are graded on their usage of the signature food ingredient of the day, the taste/texture of the food and arrangement of dishes over the course of 4 different meal categories. That's their criteria. All we're given is the contest details and the contest prizes, along with qualifications. No additional criteria. For one of the contests I was interested in participating in, I had to Help Desk in order to get more information about the contest. I think it would be more... how do I say it... intuitive to put that information of criteria in the actual description.
But my biggest complaint is the lack of a public contest suggestion pool started by an OGPlanet Official, not a player. This, of course, will spill into discussion about the GA System, the Help Desk service and the overall behavior and attitude of the Official LaTale Forums, but that's another time. My point is that there's an event suggestion thread, but not a contest suggestion thread? There is a difference between an event and a contest: an event is something that is hosted in game and is active interaction while a contest is something hosted outside of the game and is passive interaction. Both are competitive, but I lean towards contests over events due to the outside game element. Of course, I can complain about in game events as well, but I'm ranting about forum contests today.
What is a contest that you're interested in? I know what type of contest I'm interested in, but that's a secret for now. But wouldn't it be great if we had a Write OGPlanet Administration a Critique Contest or a LaTale Cosplay or Prop Contest. Well they already did food, which I think was some of the most innovative despite the cheating, but what about a LaTale Music Contest or god forbid a LaTale Dance Contest. Not Abio Abio Revolution. Emote spamming is not dancing. Besides that's an event. But I was serious about the contest. There could be a LaTale themed Apparel Contest, a LaTale Review Contest, a LaTale Day of Service Contest. Contest, contest, CONTESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.
So tell me again why we are so limited when there's so many things that can be held? Even though some of them just have a few people who enter, they're really trying to promote contests through the LaTale Button rewards, which I appreciate. I'm not sure if OGPlanet knows this, but when they have contests that force players to create their own LaTale related material, it gets shared and is therefore free shameless advertising. Doing a video for a contest? Show it to your friend who will show it to their friend and so on and so on. Doing art or crafts for a contest? Share it on facebook where it gets shoved on the feeds of all of your friends (hopefully). It's shameless advertisement and the more user generated material that OGPlanet receives due to the content of their contest, the more people they get to play LaTale.
Contests are fun though. They're there to be an option for fun. I've had fun doing the few contests that I've entered mostly because I collaborate with others. For now though, I'll be practicing how to do the Dracula Sheep hairstyle on my own hair in anticipation for a contest to come up.
But let's call it a night and wait for our next adventure.
