The musings of a guild leader are always full of drama. I wouldn't deny that my own musings aren't free of the dreaded drama bug, but we're all human. It's just that guild leaders are more exposed to those sort of things. What makes you different though, is your ability to come back from cloud nine to the people you love.
Ah. The wonders of a guild. It's about time I start a section called Master Musings. If you've been following this blog long enough, you should know that I'm coleader of Inflation with JohnGee. My job isn't the most glamorous as it would seem though. I go through a bunch load of shit. Yes I swore, which I don't do very much on this blog, unless it's completely necessary. But yes. I go though a bunch load of shit and you know what? The nature of the topics I must traverse is rant worthy.
So, let us rant. How is the life of a guild leader like? It's really something you have to get used to. I need to be open for my guild members to contact me, whether it's in game or outside of the game. I am restricted in what I can do in my leisure time for my job causes me to choose my guild members' needs over my own. I need to deal with the shit that gets thrown at me in the form of Inflation discrimination, drama encompassing multiple individuals in my guild and the sorts. Does that make me hate the community a little bit more? Of course. Does it make me hate the game so much that I want to quit? Of course not.
Despite the negativity that occurs throughout the day, I am rewarded with something that you must earn. With every greeting, welcome back, goodnight, I sometimes earn smiles that fuel my very existence on LaTale. With every lame joke, I usually get a laugh or two that jump starts my day or night. With every sinking heart I touch, I feel accomplished as a guild leader, a role model, a friend, a guild mother. Every little individual that's under my wing are precious to me and at the end of the day, their happiness makes my job worth it.
It really does take a lot of work to keep people happy. It sometimes comes in the form of paper pushing through Help Desk, sometimes it comes in deliberating with problematic players, but it always takes time out of my day. But you know, you can't put a price on a smile. It's something you need to work for. Sometimes it comes with ease, sometimes it comes with great difficulty, but it's something worth the trouble.
At the end of the day, it's the guild leader's role to be there for the people they recruit. In retrospect, if you're guild leader isn't doing this in one form or another, they're not doing their job.
But I'll save that for another day.
